Thanks for reading, Derek! You’re right, “make sure it’s someone you can communicate with” would have been a better way to put it, and probably a lot shorter to write. I just know a few others, besides myself, that have taken this route and virtually had the same issues. Perhaps with a more professional/higher profile firm this would not be an obstacle.

Great advice! I think what you’re saying with the offshore thing is to make sure it’s someone you can communicate with. I’ve worked with programmers in Delhi that are wonderful communicators with fluent English, talking as comfortable as if we were in the same city, great to work with. And I’ve worked with programmers in my same city that were terrible communicators, and hard to work with.
